The Velvet and Silk Café was a series of exhibitions created by Mies Van Der Rohe and Lilly Reich in the 1920’s, to share modernist design with the general public: to create interest and excitement for this new ethos within each city in which they exhibited. The first of the series was held in Berlin in 1927.

Taking inspiration from Mies and Lilly, V+SC organises a series of events in Glasgow for architects, artists and designers. The events are ususally made up of a series of presentations, where speakers can discuss a project, product, person or subject of their choice for around 5 minutes with time for questions, discussion and drinks afterwards.

The past few years have been tough for many in the architecture and design industries and so these evenings are designed as a little well deserved light relief!

Previous speakers have included Robin Webster of cameronwebster, Alan Pert of NORD Architecture, Toby Paterson, Alistair MacAulay of Timorous Beasties and Martin Boyce to name only a few.
